Mac checkup
About This Mac. Then a straight answer.
Browsing and a letter, on the Mac you already have. The photo stays on this Mac. Spareboot does not upload it. You pay about $79 a year only if the result is Ready, and checkout is not open yet.
1. Photograph About This Mac
Apple menu, About This Mac. Take a photo or choose a picture. Then open Ask Spareboot and send the picture with the note. Paste the reading back here.
Note for Ask Spareboot
I'm checking a Mac with Spareboot. The photo is Apple menu, About This Mac. Reply with only these lines: YEAR: MACOS: CHIP: apple or intel RAM_GB: Do not ask for a serial number, a password, or an Apple ID. One short reading, nothing else.
2. Or type it in
Use this when the photo reading fails. The browser’s own version number is not used.
3. The result
Add the macOS version from About This Mac.
4. Read-only Terminal check
A downloaded script gets stopped by Gatekeeper. Paste this into Terminal instead. It only reads the model id, the macOS version, memory, the processor, free disk, the battery, and the pending update list. No sudo. It does not change the Mac.
bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://spareboot.com/mac/check)"
Where the limits come from
Checked 2026-10-05. Chrome needs macOS 13 or newer. Current Firefox needs macOS 10.15 or newer. Microsoft 365’s apps need macOS 12 or newer to keep working. Apple silicon and 2017 or newer Intel are the plain Ready years. 2015 and 2016 are limited. 2014 and older is Abort.
